Conexus Indiana names Purdue leader to Board of Directors

INDIANAPOLIS (August 14, 2018) Conexus Indiana today announced the appointment of a new member to the Conexus Indiana Board of Directors. Dr. Gary R. Bertoline, dean of the Purdue Polytechnic Institute and distinguished professor of Computer Graphics Technology and Computer & Information Technology at Purdue University, joins the 13-member board, which is comprised of statewide representatives from industry and academia.

The board guides Conexus Indiana in its mission to accelerate, promote and grow Indiana’s Advanced Manufacturing and Logistics economy by leading innovative collaborations between industry, academic and public sector partners.

Dr. Bertoline co-founded the Indiana Next Generation Manufacturing Competitiveness Center (IN-MaC), as well as the Polytechnic Institute initiative at Purdue University. The Polytechnic initiative is a major effort to transform the university’s curricula and learning experience to better prepare graduates for life and work in the digital age. Dr. Bertoline is the visionary lead for the Purdue Polytechnic Indianapolis High School, which opened in Fall 2017. He also led the creation of the university’s Rosen Center for Advanced Computing and the Envision Center for Perceptualization.

Since joining Purdue University in 1990, Dr. Bertoline served as department head of Computer Graphics Technology, dean and associate dean for graduate programs in the College of Technology.

A prolific author, Dr. Bertoline has published numerous papers in journals and trades on engineering and computer graphics, computer-aided design, and visualization research. He has authored and co-authored seven text books in the areas of computer-aided design and engineering design graphics with one, Fundamentals of Graphics Communications, currently in its 7th edition.

Dr. Bertoline earned his bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University, master’s degree in education from Miami University, and a doctoral degree from The Ohio State University. Prior to joining Purdue University, he was a faculty member in the College of Engineering at Ohio State for three years.
